  14. Windows Users, make sure not to use the HyperDisk defaults.  The optimum
  15. settings for HyperDisk and Windows is to use between 1/4 and 1/2 of your
  16. memory and stagged writes.  To do this you must use the C:nnnn parameter
  17. and the S parameter.  If you are running the install program to install
  18. HyperDisk, just enter in an amount of memory, don't accept the default, and
  19. when it asks you for options add the letter S to the option line.  This will
  20. make Windows run a whole lot better.
  21.  
  22. Stacker and SuperStor users!  The answer is YES, HyperDisk will work with these
  23. compression products and no you don't need to do anything special in order to
  24. make it work with them.

  168.   Windows 3.1 changed the startup and shutdown procedures, this version works
  169.   correctly with these new conditions.

  172.   supported. /CB:nnn sets the minimum base free memory for Windows.

  180.   obtain 1954K as the new HyperDisk cache size. (Actual Cache value will be
  181.   rounded  down to the nearest integer multiple of the buffer size (Denoted
  182.   as Sectors/Buffer).

  306. HyperDisk gives you a true high-performance cache with the Win3 compatibility
  307. of SmartDrive.
  308.  
  309. Load HIMEM.SYS (or QEMM 5.10+, 386Max) before HyperDisk.
  310. Load HyperDisk before Windows.
  311.  
  312. HYPER386 or HYPER286 may be used for Windows and HIMEM.SYS.
  313.  
  314. HYPERDKX should be used with QEMM386, EMM386 or 386Max.

  316. To enable the automatic release of XMS/EMS memory from the cache for Windows
  317. use, you must load Windows with the /S or /3 switches.  Having 386ENH as your
  318. default Win3 mode will not by itself enable the cache reduction.

  321. Loading HyperDisk high in Chips and Tech. based machines and Windows 3:
  322.  
  323. Be sure to add the appropriate EMMEXCLUDE= statement to the [386Enh] section
  324. of SYSTEM.INI.  EMMEXCLUDE=E800-EFFFF or EMMEXCLUDE=E400-EFFF will be correct
  325. depending on how much memory is used by HyperDisk.

  328. CAUTION:  Windows Enhanced mode provides time-sliced multitasking. If you use
  329. staged write caching, be careful with <Ctrl><Alt><Del> (Soft Reboot) when
  330. under Win3; it will restart your machine immediately without informing
  331. HyperDisk of the impending reboot, and could thus cause loss of data not yet
  332. written from the cache to the disk.  Always exit Windows or wait until the
  333. disk updates are complete before you reboot your system!

  338. "Load High" Users:  Packed File Corrupt Error!
  339.  
  340. If you encounter this error you should select the /OG option when you install
  341. HyperDisk. Microsoft's EXEPACK program, used to compress executable program
  342. files, has a bug that causes this error. To make these applications safe for
  343. programs using XMS High Memory Area (HMA) obtain a copy of LZEXE to unpack
  344. the application program and then optionally repack the application.  Also,
  345. please beware that some programs that have been packed using EXEPACK have been
  346. post-processed and can not be unpacked using the UNPACKER; for these you will
  347. have to contact the product producer and request an non-packed version.
  348. LZEXE is a great FREEWARE program by Fabrice Bellard, Grabels, France.

  491. where NNNN is cache size outside of Win3 and nnnn is cache size to use with
  492. Win3.  You may also use HYPERDK CW:nnnn from the DOS command line to set
  493. the size of cache to use while in Windows. (You must be using XMS memory to
  494. use this feature, and you must load Windows with the /3 parameter.)

  523.   proceeded by three beeps and the following message:

  525.     HyperDisk Error......... RShft: Retry=LShft Skip=Ctrl Abort=Alt?

  527.   You can enter: R or <RShift><LShift> for RETRY; S or <LShift><Ctrl>
  528.   for SKIP; A or <RShift><Alt> for ABORT.  If no response is entered
  529.   within four seconds a RETRY is automaticlly entered for you.

  531. * Staged write error handling has been enhanced. If a disk write update
  532.   fails, each sector is written and verified one-by-one. This insures the
  533.   minimum loss of data if the disk surface has developed a bad spot. Hard
